Types of Irradiance Parameters We Support

We supply and integrate a full range of Pyranometers to monitor the following parameters in line with IEC 61724-1 standards

Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI)

Measures the total solar radiation (direct and diffuse) received on a horizontal surface.
Essential for establishing the baseline solar resource in any PV project.

Plane of Array Irradiance (POA)

Mounted at the same tilt and orientation as the PV modules, this sensor measures the actual irradiance received by the array.
Crucial for accurate performance ratio (PR) evaluation.

Diffuse Horizontal Irradiance (DHI)

Measured using a shaded pyranometer with a shading ring or solar tracker. Helps isolate the diffuse component of solar radiation for advanced analysis.

Direct Normal Irradiance (DNI)

Measured with a pyrheliometer on a two-axis solar tracker. Captures direct beam sunlight, often used in resource assessments and CSP applications.

Albedo (Reflected Irradiance)

Measured using a downward-facing pyranometer. Determines the reflected radiation from the ground, particularly important for bifacial PV systems.

Our SunTrac+ solar tracker simplifies the setup by enabling the integration of multiple sensors on a single platform, allowing simultaneous and precise measurement of DHI, DNI, and more. With built-in GPS, automatic solar tracking, and MODBUS 485/TCP output, SunTrac+ ensures real-time, high-accuracy solar data collection with minimal maintenance. View Sutrac

Pyranometer Classes and Standards

Pyranometers are classified according to the ISO 9060:2018 and IEC 61724-1 standards into the following categories

Class Description
Class A (High Precision) Secondary Standard Pyranometers with the highest accuracy and stability. Recommended for utility-scale and research-grade installations.
Class B (Standard) Suitable for general monitoring applications. Offers a balance between cost and performance.
Class C (Basic) Designed for commercial and rooftop PV systems where basic monitoring suffices.

The selection of the pyranometer class depends on the monitoring classification of the project—Class A, B, or C systems as defined by IEC 61724-1.
